TAKE A STAND FOR CLEAN ENERGY

Oil refineries produce toxic pollution and climate changing emissions. While Americans are recognizing the need to invest in clean energy, refineries across the U.S. are heading the opposite direction by expanding their polluting facilities.  A number of refineries are even planning to use one of the dirtiest crude oils available--tar sands from Canada.

Tar sands crude will:

•     increase pollution in already overburdened fenceline communities (often low income and people of color), leading to a greater risks of childhood asthma, cancer, and neurological disorders

•     generate 3 times the greenhouse gases and 2.5 times the smog-creating pollution compared to conventional oil production

•     require 3 barrels of fresh water to extract just one barrel of fuel

•     threaten one of the planet’s largest forest ecosystems, the Boreal Forest in Canada.

Tar sands crude is bad for people and bad for the environment.  Let President Obama know that you’re taking a stand for a clean and sustainable energy future!
